EXPOSÉ OF HORRIFIC CONDITIONS
IN IAMS PET FOOD LABORATORY

IAMS produce a range of dried cat and dog food. The IAMS company is owned by Procter and Gamble, well known for their animal testing.

In May 2001 the cruelty carried out in IAMS nutrition experiments was first exposed in a front page article of the Uncaged Campaigns bulletin detailing horrific experiments involving the killing of scores of cats and dogs. For a second time IAMS have been caught out as a result of a nine-month undercover investigation conducted by US group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), at a commercial laboratory in the Mid-West of the US, who initially claimed after the first expose in May 2001 that no cats or dogs would be killed in research. The new evidence confirms that IAMS’ stated “research policy” is nothing more than a sham designed to conceal shocking suffering caused by IAMS experiments on animals.

Excerpt from PETA report:
“Our investigator video-taped IAMS dogs being dumped on cold concrete floor after having huge chunks of muscle cut out of their thighs; dogs gone stir crazy from confinement; and cats kept in a cinderblock room with crude wooden “resting” boards that had nails sticking out of them. One of the boards fell on a cat, crushing her to death, while our investigator was there. The lab director did not remove the boards when the cat was crushed but he did remove them when he was told the lab was going to be inspected because he knew they were illegal.”

Since these latest revelations of cruelty IAMS have removed the animals from this particular lab. IAMS knew of the conditions in this contract lab, yet they are trying to give the impression that they are shocked by the conditions there. The truth is they only moved these animals because of the embarrassing expose. They are now refusing to allow PETA to inspect their own labs. What are they hiding?

The IAVS is currently sending a mail-shot to all veterinary hospitals in Ireland asking them to put an end to this cruelty by hitting IAMS where it hurts, by refusing to sell their products!

Please inform your local veterinary hospitals of the facts.
